iPhone games to quash the boredom

If you are bored and need to kill some time with a brilliant iPhone game that costs less (much less) that the price of a beer, read on.

We’re looking at 3 killer games today ranging from just $0.99 through to $6.99.

Endless Ducker

Endless Ducker iPhone

It’s a simple, yet addictive premise.  Cody is a tall dude, he runs around.  You’ve got to get him to duck underthings (or jump over).  Our lanky friend Cody runs continually from left to right, tap the screen on the left to make him duck under things, tap the screen on the right to jump over.  This is one of those games that you’ll lose yourself in.  Get it on the AppStore here for $0.99.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Minecraft Pocket Edition

Minecraft has a massive cult following and the pocket edition has seen big updates recently that pretty much bring desktop Minecraft to your iPhone or iPad.  Whilst you’re paying a few more dollars for this game it’s a very different kettle of fish.  Minecraft: Pocket Edition is a first person game in which you dig holes to collect blocks.  Sounds simple, however what you do with these blocks is the critical bit – and where your imagination can run wild.  You can build anything from a tiny shack to a full on metropolis.  Get it on the AppStore here for $6.99.

Reigns

Reign iPhone

Sit on the throne as a benevolent (or malevolent) medieval monarch of the modern age and swipe your royal fingers either left or right to impose your will upon the kingdom. Survive the seemingly never-ending gauntlet of requests from your advisors, peasants, allies, and enemies while maintaining balance between the influential factions of your kingdom. But beware; each decision you make might have implications and unfortunate consequences down the road that could put your reign and family’s dynasty at risk!  Get it on the AppStore here for $2.99.

Our Verdict

If we had to chose (like you have to!), we’d go with Minecraft (direct link here).  This is a serious game that you can really invest in for the long haul.  Sure, it’s a few bucks extra but you really get what you pay for.. and really, who can resist that retro look?  We can’t!

Facetune: Here’s an app that makes you look (even more) awesome

So we’ve all got those little skin blemishes… perhaps our teeth aren’t quite perfect.  These are great and they makes us who we are, but maybe we don’t want our online picture to have those in?

Facetune let’s you tweak your photos as professional photographers do (and who charge hundreds of dollars to do so).  All the airbrushing techniques you’ve read about that celebrities use can now be applied to your selfies… by you!

There’s loads the app can do to tweak your picture including editing your smile, your skin, your eyes, your hair and even your facial structure!  You can then apply some make up and and a professional feel to the picture by, for example, blurring the background.

All of this, not for hundreds of dollars… just $3.99! Get it here on the AppStore.

How to enable Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone

Wi-fi calling is a particularly useful feature for people who are in areas of limited coverage, or often make calls from basement offices.  In this article we show you, with screen shots, how to enable wi-fi calling.

Wi-fi calling enables you to make and receive calls and SMS as usual, but using your wifi network rather than the cellular network.  Unlike services such as Skype and Whatsapp, there are no additional apps or different accounts to use; your phone operates and normal and people can call you as normal; it’s all done through your mobile operator, just via wifi instead of their cell tower.

First of all you need to ensure that your mobile network supports wi-fi calling. At the time of writing in the USA T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and (soon) Verizon support it, whilst in the UK support is found from EE and Vodafone.

If you are on a supported network:

1. Open your settings

2. Select the Phone option

Select Phone in your iPhone Settings
Select Phone in your iPhone Settings

3. Select Wi-Fi Calling

Select Wifi Calling
Select Wi-fi Calling

4. Move the Wi-Fi Calling slider to on

Move the slider to on
Move the slider to on

Your device will ensure that the wifi network you are using has sufficient bandwidth to support the call.  If it does you will see your network change to say ‘WiFi Call’:

WiFi Calling is Enabled
WiFi Calling is Enabled

Once you leave the wifi area your phone will switch to a cellular network, if one is available.

Face Swap Live iPhone App Is Taking The U.S. By Storm

NEW YORK, Jan. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Face Swap Live (http://faceswaplive.com), a new Apple iOS App, has been sweeping the nation with everyone using it to switch faces in live video. Currently #1 in over 12 countries, this app has become a phenomena all over the internet.  Already celebrities like Kathy Lee and Hoda, and World Leaders such as Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have all used the app to switch faces with hilarious results.  The app has been creating a storm on all social media channels, taking over the popular hash tags #faceswaplive and #faceswap.

Face Swap Live is currently available on iTunes App Store at https://appsto.re/us/9PRk-.i and soon to be released for Google’s Android. Developed by Laan Labs, the app lets users swap their faces in real-time on live video and then record videos and photos that they can then share. Users can also pick photos to put their face in or wear it like a mask. There is also a great internet search feature so users can search and face swap with their favorite celebrity like Justin Bieber or Beyoncé. Also included a number of advanced features to set which face features are swapped from eyes, nose and/or mouth and a detailed face vertices editor so users can swap faces with objects that don’t have standard face features like pets, fruits or whatever users can think of.

“It’s been amazing to see the diversity of face swaps from friends, family, colleges all the way from Bakersfield to Bangkok,” says co-developer Will Perkins, “My favorites have been the baby/parent videos.”

“We came up with this idea, because we have done a lot with computer vision and augmented reality (AR) in the past and we saw this an opportunity to put an amazing technology to use in a way that would be fun for the whole family,” added co-developer Jason Laan, “We wanted something that would make our family get togethers more interesting.”

Laan Labs is a boutique agency based out of Berlin and New York with a number of #1 iOS Apps including, Tap DJ and iVideoCamera. The agency has also developed solutions for NBCUniversal, Nike, Prada, Vimeo, TweetDeck among others.

Number One iPhone App Made in One Week Without Programming

LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Last night the hit game Color Switch overtook the top position in the U.S. iPhoneApp Store of All Apps.  The game has amassed over 8,000,000 downloads and is currently #1 of all apps in 34 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

Color Switch was created by California resident, David Reichelt, in a single week using drag and drop game building software called Buildbox.  Buildbox is the first game development tool without any option for programming or scripting and is widely becoming known as a rapid development tool.  Creators use the software by dragging images into a level editor and changing their physics and control properties to create unique games.  David created the basic idea for Color Switch in only 30 minutes, and then finished the complete game in one week.

Color Switch was featured by Apple in major markets upon release and promoted heavily by the social media star, Fortafy, who published the game.  This was the 31st Buildbox game to break the Top 100 iPhone Games chart in the last year and the 28th Buildbox game to be featured by Apple.  Buildbox has had more Apple features and Top 100 games built with it’s software than all other game building software platforms combined.

Buildbox has been publicly available for 15 months and the company has recently announced the version 2.0 of its software.
